The seven energy centers
What each center is, where it sits, and what the material holds about it. Two of the seven are bone and have no cavity to answer a tone, and we say so rather than making something up for them.
- 1 · Root · Muladharathe base of the spine — The Root Chakra is known in ancient wisdom as Muladhara.
- 2 · Sacral · Svadhisthanajust below the navel — The Sacral Chakra is located just below the navel.
- 3 · Solar plexus · Manipurajust above the navel — The Solar Plexus Chakra resides just above the navel.
- 4 · Heart · Anahatathe center of the chest — The Heart Chakra is located at the center of your chest.
- 5 · Throat · Vishuddhathe base of the neck — The throat chakra is located at the base of the neck.
- 6 · Third eye · Ajnathe center of the forehead, just above the brow — The Third Eye Chakra is located at the center of the forehead, just above the brow.
- 7 · Crown · Sahasrarathe top of the head — The crown chakra is known in Sanskrit terms as Sahasrara.
Where the familiar rainbow comes from. The red-to-violet chart almost everybody has seen is a twentieth-century Western arrangement, not an ancient one. The 1577 Sanskrit text the system is usually traced to describes the heart as red rather than green and the brow as moon-white rather than indigo, and there is no single chakra system to be faithful to — the source texts range from four centers to more than twenty depending on the lineage. We would rather say that than claim an authority the texts do not give.
